into Art - All Levels, (P-9) Thursdays, 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm April 3 - June 5, (10 weeks) $310 members/ $345 non-members Learn to make fresh, finished oil paintings using your sketches,
outdoor photographs, and memory. Students learn the essentials of utilizing
memory and personal experience in their work to express something interesting
and compelling about their subject.
Practicing this method, students achieve a unique sense of
abstraction, and will see their subject with fresh perspective. Instructor will offer techniques and
specific methods to guide students through various technical concerns during
painting sessions. Students will also
be introduced to different oil mediums and what their effective use can lend
to a painting. Class includes informal lectures ranging from painting methods
to texts on the inspiration and techniques used by celebrated artists. Given

Painting: the Easy Method - All Levels, (P-8) Wednesdays, 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm April 2 - June 4, (10 weeks) $310 members/ $345 non-members In this modern method we use oil over acrylic paint. The
painting progresses in layers, first in acrylic, followed later by oil. The
simplicity of this method makes this class ideal for the beginner and a boost
for the advanced student. Using this technique creates finished paintings
with a unique luminosity and a sense of depth. It is recommended that the extreme
beginner use only acrylics to learn the layering method quickly. After
understanding the basics of layering, they may progress to oils. For

transpose and work from your photos and sketches. Instructor will cover the seven components of
any successful painting including color, composition and texture. You may use

art. Learn many techniques to maximize creative potential. Beginning with
earth tones, grays, and a classical palette, we initially focus on texture
and the harmony between backgrounds and foregrounds. Class will progress
through texture building and effective use of mediums to integrating images.
Gain an understanding of composition, organizing structure, color, texture,
and use of selective vision. Bi-monthly demonstrations are given, and
interested students will be given opportunities to exhibit work, as well as

Classical
Portrait Painting in Oil - Intermediate, (P-4) Tuesdays, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm April 1 - June 3, (10 weeks) $310 members/ $345 non-members * model fee *Model fee due first day of class, fee varies by class
size. Students begin painting in “Grisaille”— painting executed entirely in monochrome,
usually in shades of grey or brown—to eliminate the problems of color and
value and to concentrate on accuracy of drawing and the effects of light on
the figure. The second part of the class utilizes a limited palette, allowing
students to explore and understand the harmony and unity of light. For

Life in Oils - All Levels, (P-3) Tuesdays, 1 pm - 4 pm April 1 - June 3, (10 weeks) $310 members/ $345 non-members This class is designed for those of you who have never
painted before. Students will learn several different anyone-can-do oil
techniques while exploring one of the most classical themes in art. In each
class, students create a painting from a posed still life with the guidance
of a teacher who believes anyone can learn to paint. There will be an
emphasis on experimentation and developing individual style, as well as
regular critiques to help you see your painting objectively. For information

Painting - Intermediate, (P-2) Mondays, 9:30 am-12:30 pm March 31 - June 9

will discover the exciting possibilities of abstract art while developing a
cohesive body of work. Students experiment with layers while combining
papers, scratching textures, powders, and incorporating found objects such as
screen, beads, or glass. During this course the instructor will give

a continuation of Landscape into Art.
Instructor will give demonstrations and discussions, both in class and
during outdoor painting sessions.
Learning to make paintings and studies on site is essential to

intuitively consider formal design, color, composition and mark making while
learning about pivotal artists in abstract art history. This class will teach

Focus on Monotype - All Levels, (MM-4) Saturdays, 1 pm - 4 pm April 5 - June 7, (10 weeks) $310 members/ $345 non-members Monotype Printing: Also known as the most painterly method
among the printmaking techniques, monoprints and monotypes are essentially
printed paintings. Although images can be similar, editioning is not
possible--no two images can be exactly the same. The Monotype process creates
a translucency and a quality of light very different from a painting on paper
or a print. There is beauty in its spontaneity and combination of

finishing a one-of-a-kind art book using the concertina method (accordion
fold), saddle stitching and basic coptic (external stitching) stitch.

Media - All Levels, (MM-2) (updated class description)
Thursdays, 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm April 3 - June 5, (10 weeks) $310 members/ $345 non-members For this class, we will discuss the historical uses of collage, from its
utilitarian uses by the old masters to its pervasive use in celebrated
contemporary art. We will look at a wide range of styles from revolutionary
artists such as Picasso and Matisse, Rauschenberg and Cornell, to current
artists Wangechi Mutu and Misaki Kawai. Various transfer techniques will be
utilized to create several complete pieces. There will be an emphasis on
composition, design, drawing and painting integration. Students are
required to bring source material as a starting point for each project.

the Ancient Art of Ukrainian Egg Decorating - All Levels, (MM-1) Thursdays, 1 pm - 4 pm April 3 - May 8, (6 weeks) $210 members/ $245 non-members An exploration of the traditional method of creating the
Pysanka, including the historical, symbolic, sacred and contemporary meanings
of this miniature masterpiece of folk art. The resultant work of art is the
product of an intensive personal activity within a shared community event
observed since Neolithic times in a relaxing, meditative and edifying
environment that is challenging, profound and simultaneously fun. This class
is open and appropriate for ages over 10 and all skill levels. For more

in Metal Clay- All Levels, (J-3) Ann Rush Tuesdays, 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm April 1 - May 6, (6 weeks) $210 members/ $245 non-members $ 10 supply fee due at registration This class serves as a thorough introduction to Metal Clay,
using Art Clay Silver, for the beginner and an opportunity for creative
refinement of existing skills for the more advanced student. You will be
guided through the basics and secrets of working with Art Clay Silver and
designing jewelry pieces with Art Clay's unique characteristics in mind.
Class will cover: creative textures, stone setting, bezel setting, ring
making, Art Clay and glass combinations, refining, torch and kiln firing,
patinas, mirror-finishing and much more. You will leave this fun class with
several completely unique pieces of finished jewelry. Supplies may be

vocabulary, while the multi-level class allows new students to see a variety

Fundamentals - All Levels, (D-5) Emily Sloan Saturdays, 9:30 am-12:30 pm April 5 - June 7, (10 weeks) $310 members/ $345 non-members This fun, hands-on class will focus on the fundamentals of
drawing, with tailored instruction to strengthen your individual skill set.
We will focus on the fundamentals of “seeing”: gauging accurate proportions,
correct foreshortening, using negative space, seeing angles, etc. We will
also focus on the basic “mark-making”: line variation, lost and found edges,
searching lines, tone variation, gradation, wrapping lines around form, etc. By the end of this class you will be able
to draw what you see more accurately and more beautifully! For information or

size. Come explore what has been one of the cornerstones of fine art
throughout history. This class will put students at ease with figure studies
and will teach how to “build” an accurate and beautiful drawing. We will
learn how to use plumb lines to gauge the initial accuracy of the drawing.
This prevents underlying distortion that so often yields unsatisfactory
results. Students are encouraged to explore their own strengths and returning
students are guided towards developing individual styles and creating a
cohesive body of portfolio work. Students will be encouraged to work in
different media as appropriate. When you learn to draw the figure, you can

human figure accurately. The method of "sight size", a fundamental
