Art League Houston has offered Outreach Programs since 1991. Art League Houston Outreach classes are presented free of charge and provide access to the creative process for individuals in the greater Houston area who often have little or no opportunity for creative outlets or artistic expression.

The psychological advantage of creative expression, to both healing and general well-being has been extensively documented. All three classes are designed to enhance and enrich the lives of people dealing with disease and disability on a daily basis. Many programs exist for children with disabilities in Houston, but there are no other programs for adults and young adults with severe and catastrophic disabilities living outside of assisted care or nursing home facilities. Persons with such disabilities struggle daily and often remain alone at home with little or no human contact with the outside world. This often leads to social and physical atrophy, while increasing total disability and premature death. The HIV+/ Cancer Related Illnesses Healing Art Group, Multiple Sclerosis /MS Healing Art Group, and the Physically Challenged Healing Art Group provide a meaningful alternative for individuals to learn and enjoy the fulfillment of creative expression.
