Narrative portraits document the human portrait. They also tell stories that come from personal experiences and the imagination of the painter. Students will work from live models in modes of both drawing and painting. Students will be challenged to draw and paint portraiture from live models and photographs they take in class, create preparatory sketches as well as creating a narrative painting based on a book, poem, or passage of writing of their own choosing. Each student will end up with a series of drawings, alla prima paintings and at least one completed narrative portrait painting to present at the end of the course. Each student will also be assigned an artist to research and present during the semester to their classmates. This class is for both oil and acrylic painters.
