Oil pastel is a relatively new medium dated from the early 20th century. It is a very versatile and dynamic material that combines drawing and painting properties. An easy to control, very flexible to mix with medium, oil pastels are ideal for working on any surface. Over the course of 4 weeks, students will discover exciting techniques and they will learn to combine oil pastels with other mediums such as acrylic, watercolor and ink. This class also covers a variety of exercises to guide students to create effective compositions following the elements and principles of art. Some assignments are inspired by impressionist and postimpressionist artists' approaches to painting. This class is a great fit for anyone looking to transition from drawing to painting or experienced artists looking to learn about the endless applications of oil pastels. All levels are welcome. Please note: some tools and materials will be provided by the instructor.
