This course will explore the use of simplified shapes to create landscapes with acrylic paint. Images will establish a personal use of color that shifts in value as they recede into space, invoking depth. Processes will include establishing foreground, middleground, and background spaces, hard-edge painting, figure-ground reversals, and understanding color relationships. Students are encouraged to invent their own image or use a landscape picture and reduce it to an abstraction.
Acrylic paints are fast drying, water-soluble, and easy to clean up. It’s also forgiving; if you make a mistake, you can paint over it quickly. No prior experience is necessary.
