UPDATES

In light of the low positivity rate, we will be updating our mask policy. Effective Monday, March 28, 2022, masks will be recommended for all instructors, students, visitors, and staff in the ALH building.

We kindly ask that individuals who feel ill or have been exposed to COVID-19 within the past two weeks not attend their class or come to visit ALH at a later date.

Please note that this is a fluid situation and the mask mandate may resume in the interest of public safety should the positivity rate increase significantly.

We will not tolerate harassment over an individual's choice to mask, including students, visitors, instructors, and staff.

The Art League School requires proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for staff, instructors, and students employed at ALH or enrolled in any in-person school programming.

Staff, instructors
, and students will also have the alternative option to provide a negative PCR test performed prior to each building entry (within 72 hours prior for PCR test result).

March 28, 2022

In light of the continued emergence of new Covid variants, as well as the broad accessibility of vaccines, beginning January 1, 2022 the Art League School will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR a negative PCR test performed prior to each building entry (within 72 hours prior for PCR test result) for any student enrolled in an in-person program beginning Winter 2022.

This change will enable us to continue our in-person programs while promoting the safety and well-being of our entire school community. We will continue to mandate masks and distancing to minimize transmission risk and will continue to offer reduced-capacity classes.

How to to Upload Proof of Vaccination or PCR Covid Test Results

OPTION 1

ALH has teamed up with Bindle, a health status app that helps you feel safe going into shared spaces. Individuals can safely store COVID-19 test results and vaccine records in their Bindle wallet, which transforms them into anonymous entry passes that can be used to access events and locations such as classes at ALH. Bindle technology is designed in such a way that your personal health data is kept strictly private. You have complete control of your health data – Bindle and the event venue don't see it or store it.

Download “My Bindle” from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

IMPORTANT: Please download the app, upload proof of Vaccination or PCR test and create an entry pass before entering the ALH building.

OPTION 2

Don't want to download an app? You can simply submit proof of vaccination through here.

IMPORTANT:

  • All students need to submit proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test result through one of the two options above before entering the ALH building.

  • Students will not be permitted inside the building until this electronic process is complete.

  • Students are not permitted to arrive at the building and physically show their vax card as a means of entry in lieu of completing the online process.

Why?

We are using this electronic process to streamline our efforts to manage a cohort of over 250 students in the winter semester. We can not offer a case by case approach.

BINDLE

1. Download “My Bindle” from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

2. Create an account using one of the two options: “Auto Import” by uploading an existing vaccine QR code or “Manual Set Up” by providing your name, selfie, email address and birth date. (If you are using the Auto Import function, Bindle can ingest QR codes from SMART Health Cards.) As a final step, you'll be prompted to type in a verification code that is sent to your email address.

3. To upload your completed COVID-19 vaccination information including COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card, go to My Certificates on your Bindle and tap the “+”* icon and follow the instructions to create a digital health certificate. To upload a test result click on the “+” icon and then “COVID-19 Test Results”.

*If for any reason you don't see a “+” on the screen please reduce your “Screen Zoom” and “Font Size” in your phone’s “Display and Brightness” system settings.

4. Once you've uploaded the necessary certificates, go to My Passes on your Bindle, search for Art League Houston and click Create Entry Pass.

5. If you meet the health requirements for entry, Bindle will generate an Entry Pass with your photo and QR code.

6. When you arrive at Art League Houston, you will be required to hold up your QR code to a scanner located in the reception area which will read your health entry pass.

Upon reading the recent statement by the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) regarding the allegations against Bill Arning, Art League Houston (ALH) stands in solidarity with our artist community. It was brought to our attention yesterday that a facebook fundraiser benefiting ALH was created without our knowledge by Arning. We have asked him to remove this fundraiser. If we receive any funds from this campaign, they will be donated to RAINN. Arning was an underwriter and host committee member for our upcoming gala. We notified him yesterday that we have removed him from the gala host committee and will be refunding his sponsorship. ALH does not tolerate sexual harassment in any form. We support our artists and will always hold true to our mission and values in service to our community.

Our hope is that this contribution will invest in Black lives and communities of Color, and also empower people to mobilize while pushing for legislation and policy change.

Black Lives Matter. As an organization and as individuals, we at Art League Houston (ALH) are raising our voices to support change and push back against all forms of racism, oppression and inequality in place in our country. We collectively mourn the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and the many other lost black lives. We deeply condemn all acts of racism, oppression and brutality happening towards members of our global community like Christian Cooper. We recognize our privilege as an arts organization, and we recognize that we must work with and support individuals and groups who are already doing this work locally and around the country to stand up strongly against oppression, racism, inequality and brutality. We will continue to listen, support, and stand in solidarity with our vibrant and creative community of Black artists, staff, supporters, and audiences who help make ALH a space where people come together through diverse, dynamic, and creative experiences to better understand the world.

Exhibitions:

Due to the ongoing public health emergency, COVID-19, ALH has extended the March round of exhibitions, Alice Leora Briggs & Julián Cardona: The Writing on the Wall, Where We Are, and Tomiko Jones: Hatsubon until June 27, 2020. ALH canceled the opening reception scheduled for March 13, 2020 and hosted a Facebook LIVE gallery walk-through with the artists. Furthermore, ALH commissioned a local videographer to produce video interviews with the exhibiting artists so they have a platform to talk about their work on view, which ALH will share with the community in the coming weeks.

Insta11ations:

Insta11ations is a pilot program in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs featuring a series of distinct public art experiences created in each of Houston’s 11 city council districts. Due to the ongoing public health emergency, COVID-19, ALH has postponed all in-person Insta11ations unveiling events for the Insta11ations project until further notice. Artbound In-School Integrative Arts Program:

Artbound! in person classes are temporarily on hiatus due to the closure of Houston ISD through May 4.  However, ALH will provide online instruction to most of our campuses this semester as we “Stay Home & Work Safe” together with local elementary schools to transition Artbound classes online. We have also created an Artbound! series on ALH’s social media platforms, which highlights the artwork created by Atherton Elementary students for the Society of Performing Arts annual Wells Fargo Student Art Contest. The theme was Ingenuity. Lastly, keep an eye out for #Artbound!athome in the coming weeks where we will be sharing a series of art videos for the young artists in your life.

Healing Arts Program:

ALH has transitioned all Healing art classes online via zoom and it's been a great success! ALH wants to make sure Healing Art participants can still connect with their creative community. The results have been amazing and the Healing Art Community is continuing their creative journeys from a distance while still being social. The Healing Art exhibition and fundraiser has been rescheduled from May 9 to July 11, 2020.

High School Art Intensive:

The 2020 Summer High School Studio Art Intensive is now accepting applications! The deadline to submit applications is Tuesday, April 15. The Summer Intensive program is scheduled to begin June 1. We will continue to communicate any updates or changes to you via our email newsletter and social media. In addition, you can check for updates on our Health & Safety Page on our website. We look forward to continuing to welcome you to our gallery during our regular gallery hours (Monday - Sunday: 9 AM - 5 PM) and we encourage the community to visit our new round of exhibitions, Alice Leora Briggs & Julián Cardona: The Writing on the Wall, Where We Are, and Tomiko Jones: Hatsubon, which will officially open on March 14 until April 25, 2020.
